New Product! RoamRig Solar Brackets for Revels
The stock solar panel on Winnebago Revels does almost nothing. We’re all-too-familiar with the disappointment when solar isn't enough to maintain the power system, and you probably are, too. So, we’ve developed high-quality solar panel brackets that will fit the rails on your Revel and allow you to upgrade to readily-available large-format panels that produce significantly more power.
What is RoamRig selling?
Custom-made solar panel brackets.
These RoamRig brackets are stainless steel with black powder coating. They mount to the STOCK Revel roof rack cross bars. Our brackets are compatible with many commercial/residential solar panels, which you or your installer will need to source separately.
RoamRig is not selling solar panels because we cannot ship them – they are large! Local solar suppliers (such as CED Greentech) keep various panels in stock at great prices.
Where can I buy the brackets?
They'll be available on our website soon!
Will RoamRig install upgraded solar panels?
Yes! If you can travel to RoamRig HQ in Connecticut for installation, we can upgrade your solar panel and controller (if needed). Get in touch to discuss the details – including panel options and pricing. We may be able to do other RoamRig upgrades at the same time.
How does installation work?
Our brackets mount to the stock Revel roof rack cross bars. No holes are needed in the panels or the van. The height and placement of the brackets is very flexible.
Since we are only selling the brackets, our installation instructions for this WILL BE VAGUE and we CANNOT give specific recommendations. You should visit an installation shop experienced in solar if you need specific information about what panel to use, where to get panels, how to wire the panel, what solar controller to use, how to change the solar controller, etc.
Can my van handle an upgraded panel?
These larger panels REQUIRE a high voltage solar controller. All RoamRig power systems have this already. If you don’t have a RoamRig power system, you can upgrade your controller.
RoamRig currently does not have a kit for high voltage solar controllers for vans that do not have a RoamRig power system.
What is the max panel size I can add to my van?
For the physical size of the panel, the biggest limiting factor is the space on top of your van. Panels can be no wider than 44”. The panel length is entirely dependent on how you want to fit it on your roof. The height and placement of the brackets is very flexible.
Electrically, make sure your controller is capable of handling the upgraded panel. If you have a full RoamRig power system, then the only limitation is the controller has a 50V open-circuit maximum for the solar panel.
What specific panels/part numbers should I buy?
You can buy the brackets from us, but you’ll need to source a panel locally and then install it on your van. We are not offering specific advice about what panel to purchase.
Will my exterior solar port still work?
No. Unless you are hooking up a panel that is identical to the one on top of the van.
How does a larger solar panel affect my fan, radio, etc.?
Satellite radio antenna: This may affect satellite radio reception as a large panel will be over the antenna on the roof.
Stock MaxxAir fan: The panel will cover the fan at an angle. The fan may not open fully, depending on how you configure the brackets. However, when the fan cover touches the underside of the panel, it will stop. Airflow should remain sufficient. To access the fan after the solar panel is installed, the panel will need to be removed.
Other rooftop accessories (including Starlink): There are many variables (new panel size, placement, size and placement of other accessories). You will need to take measurements or work with your installer to determine what will fit on your roof.
Do I get a tax credit for solar upgrades?
Maybe! We have more information here, but only your tax professional can answer that question with certainty.
