Alternator & Regulator Kit Update

Update 8/13/24: bare alternators and external regulator kits are available in our online store again. There are now some warnings and acknowledgment checkboxes on the product pages. Moving forward, support and warranty for these products will be limited whether you get these products from RoamRig’s online store or from a RoamRig dealer.

 
As some customers have noticed, we are no longer selling alternators, regulator updates, or external regulator kits on our website. It was a difficult choice, and we want you to know why. RoamRig and our power system installation partners are still doing full RoamRig power system upgrades that include these products, which is explained below.

Whether it is Winnebago, RoamRig, or someone else, the sale of and support of alternator systems for the purpose of charging lithium batteries in camper vans is difficult. 

For RoamRig, when we sell an alternator as part of one of our full power system upgrades, we can control exactly how the alternator is used/installed, which puts us in a very good position for setting realistic expectations for how it will perform and for being able to support that product after the installation.

When we sell just a small part of a larger system (E.G. just an alternator, or just a regulator kit), we have learned that we open customers and ourselves up to support challenges. Parts of the system and installation that RoamRig does not control may cause the alternator to perform poorly, not work at all, or to fail. If this happens, the unknown variables prevent us from providing a high level of support and we might not be able to help.

As a result of this, we’ve made a difficult, but necessary choice to discontinue sales of alternator-related products that are not intended for use with full RoamRig power systems.

We truly want to provide a means by which people can address alternator related challenges. Before RoamRig can resume selling these products, we need to determine if there’s a way for us to restructure how they are sold and supported that helps to mitigate some of the alternator-related support challenges that are a result of selling these parts/kits.

Please bear with us as we look into options. We do not have a timetable for when these may be available again nor can we guarantee that these parts will ever be available again.
